TORONTO STAR, JANUARY 3 1958: "It is true that the parks department operates 58 natural ice rinks for skating and 23 for hockey - or will do so, if and when there is enough frost. For all the freezing weather we get here most winters, the department might as well spare the trouble and expense, and get on with the job of multiplying the number of artificial ice rinks."

General impressions of the rink:A beautifully designed rink with a little bridge overtop, no fence. Apparently it has a very loyal constituency,. and no wonder

Zamboni? On site or flying squad?Zamboni

Outdoor lights: There are lights along the side of the ice.

Rink guards:A few hours a week, with nothing to do

Other staff:zamboni guy in the back room, seems to keep to himself

Is rink open for unsupervised skating when no staff available:yes, no fences

Schedule available? Posted inside? Posted Outside? Available to take home?:posted -- but there's not much of a schedule since there's no fence

Helmet policy enforced?:no, mostly no staff around

Changerooms: sex segregated? no, just an open area with floor-to-ceiling windows toward the rink, nice design

Changeroom cleanliness:very good

Washrooms? cleanish, TP? Soap? Working sinks? Garbages?Everything in good shape

Is there a working phone line? ??

Is the phone number posted?no

Are things in good repair? Are there broken tables?Nothing broken

Are there enough benches inside? Do rubber mats reach benches – perfectly, reasonably, not well need more mats?Enough benches, enough rubber mats

Does the staff room have windows that face the ice?no (compressor room)

Is the staff room clearly marked?no

Describe staff office club house:there isn't one -- on the rare occasions when rink guards work there, they sit in the common area. The zamboni guy is in the compressor room with the door open, but it's down soem stairs, hard to see inside

Are there skates available?no

Are there helmets available to borrow?no

Public free drop in shinny hours per week:not allowed at all, but people just wait until dark

Public free drop in pleasure-skating time per week:all the time

Does the rink serve food and drinks?no

Are there vending machines?no

Are there places to eat near the rink?no, it's surrounded by huge brick monster homes

Does the rink have a parking lot?yes

Is there other parking nearby? Free on the street or pay on the street?yes

How does the last visit compare to earlier visits…seem busier, friendlier, better ice, general impression?each time the rink has seemed lively and the users often seem to know one another
